Kaka Fragments 2007

A selection of mostly free-form poems that were originally intended for a longer prose poem called Manifest 7; Some of them are unfinished or under construction. I will add more and/or revise as I go

I [Edit]

We adore the Word for its Humanity,
The Letter, son of Man, made
Famous by its rearrangeability

And reinforesee our right
To twist with the Linguistic Turn
That Josef Johann built

While our Enters ejaculate prematurely
Over the digital eyescape landsore
Of yore imagination.

II [Edit]

I dream in black-on-white, erotic
Slaves of the System

Font, fixedsys, dual-screening
While Moloch watches over meaning

As the Asphodels flicker-bloom
On my very weary late-night talk
shoulder.

III [Edit]

The spaces in the phrases
Water from the Meaning-Well
Turns to wine sublime
Only this I can tell:
I'm doing my time.

Here's to hoping
You'll be feeling
Better soon.

Minutes disperse scattershot
Exhaustion bleeds into view
Your kohled-up-eyes
Scream monochrome.
I feel at home.

Here's to hoping
You'll be feeling
Better soon.

IV [Edit]

Our relationship
Below this screaming street-lamp
Flickers on and off.

Shadows make way for light to
Return momentarily.

V [Edit]

Meaningful gazes.
Secretly second-guessing!
A quiet breakfast.

VI [Edit]

As my audience slumbers
I beat down hard on my tin drum
To make a scene and stay young

VII [Edit]

This is where I conjure
Content from my Balzac
And shoot Dada with my Dickens

I hope you are watching
But I don't expect you to pay for it

VIII [Edit]

Now homeward bound
Thought supplanted by sound,
Merry-go-around.

Mass transit, enter, mount
Stop, start, make it count.

On-board the evening tram,
For a nominal fee you can,
Up until 03:00 AM.

IX [Edit]

My friend once said she drinks coffee in the afternoon
Then briefly naps away before the drink sinks in
But I, too simple for such measures,
I approach my target directly.

X [Edit]

Stellar, I know nought 'bout astronomy
Yet I feel oddly entitled to celestial imagery
As a human being, anyway
Of the stars, they say.

IX [Edit]

The Zone takes care of its own.
And that's the bottom line,
'cos Edward Saïd so.
