Small annoyance with forums and slapping curtain too

Postby Armand » Thu Aug 16, 2007 14:04

Ok, my curtain is slapping annoyingly in the wind, so it has raised my annoyance tolerance. I mean dropped it! ARRRRGGG

Anyway, this might not be SD-specific, though atm it's the only forum I rly read... but, when I click a direct link to a post, it usually ends up viewing another message, usually about three messages before the one the link points at. And no, I don't scroll or do anything while the page loads. Why~~ :D

I think I've experienced this to some degree on other forums, but I'm unable to recreate it right now. Could you describe when this happens?

Oh! I see, what I think happens is the actual code of the page loads faster than the images, thus, your browser thinks you are at the bottom even though the images have yet to set the actual boundary for the bottom of the page. This results in the images pushing your browser downwards. I think this can be best illustrated by trying this: Wait until the page has fully loaded and if the browser screen points to the wrong post, press enter for the URL in your bar again, it should take you to where it should.

I wonder if there is anything one could do about it, though.

Yeah, that seems to be the case! However, it doesn't always happen like that, at least earlier I noticed the browser will specifically return it to the appropriate spot after the images have changed the page size and layout. Could be a firefox thing though, their updates often seem to cause secondary issues with previously ok things :D

I suspected this, and it is exactly as mortis says. I dunno if there's anything to do about it though since it's up to the browser to handle anchors.
