I've just removed 74 users from the database.

Wild times...

Surprised It definitely is! And There haven't been jokes lately Sad

About 130 bots removed - if your account was wiped, let me know and re-register :p

How about a verification code that is sent to your email after you have created your account to actually make the account usable (like our beloved cd-keys Razz )?

Or admin invite/verification required for registering? Embarassed

The verification "queue" could time out after, say, three days. Thus spam registrations could simply be ignored. Someone who wants to register simply pulls the sleeve of an admin who then verifies said registration.

Both CAPTCHA and moderation would work, of course, or just disabling registration altogether. I do like the jokes though.

How about not allowing guests to create topics?

Just to measure the interest, who'd vote for closed registrations?

I like the jokes and all but... the whole thing is kinda old now. I'm removing several (3-5) spam posts daily. Wouldn't mind if it was simply closed Confused

Besides, who knows what kind of attention the openness draws as time passes Shocked

I'd disable registrations but by god, I can't find the feature! Very Happy

I found a hack that can be used to add that feature, but yeah, seriously, phpbb2 doesn't have that feature :]

I'll see if I can install it.

Smeagol, if you can do one bit for me when you have time, I'll do the rest Smile

Code: Select all

#
#-----[ SQL ]----------------------------------------------
#

INSERT INTO `phpbb_config` VALUES ('registration_status', '0');
INSERT INTO `phpbb_config` VALUES ('registration_closed', '');

I'm a bit uncertain about the phpmyadmin table values and their functions so it's better someone who knows it does it :]

I also finally went on and banned a few of the spammer IPs as the same IP addresses were browsing over 10 pages and categories simultaneously and separately. A permanent strain like that on the server is just, meh.

Actually, Smeagol, there's something else as well (regarding the wiki software), if you have any time, nudge me!
